Foreword:

In 2001, #Deep13's regulars were a mix of high school kids, college students, and young adults who were just entering the workforce, mostly from the United States. We weren't used to the idea of catastrophic events happening in our country, aside from the occasional odd lone nut terrorist attack. Up until the morning of September 11th, the idea of another Pearl Harbor or a JFK assassination seemed left in the past. Of course, all of that changed, as we all became witnesses to one of the most horrific events in the history of the world.

My personal recollection of that day is more vivid than most memories of my recent past: I was a senior in high school, and, before heading out to school, I watched the attacks unfold on TV. One of the buildings had collapsed just as I headed out the door. Once at school, it was the only event being discussed both outside of and inside of class. As soon as I was done for the day, I grabbed some lunch from KFC, ran home, turned on the news, and then connected to IRC to discuss the events with #Deep13.

Other people had interesting stories to tell - particularly several of the regulars based out of the New York/New Jersey area and the northeastern U.S. As the story of DarkonZero goes - whose collection this log is from - he had gotten drunk the night before, and woke up with a hangover once the attacks were underway.

This log begins hours after the attacks had already occurred and the Twin Towers had collapsed; as far as we know, no log exists of the events during the attack and the immediate aftermath. It is, if nothing else, a fascinating, live look at a scared, angry group of individuals who were reacting to a life- and society-altering tragedy.
